The Old Stonehouse Railway Viaduct, Lanarkshire
Stonehouse Railway Viaduct was opened in 1904 by the Caledonian Railway and closed in 1968 after Auchenlochan Colliery No.6 closed with the demolition of the eight steel trusses in 1984 using explosives. The seven sandstone piers still stand proudly. It is said to have been the second highest in Scotland, crossing the Avondale and the Avon Water. Stonehouse Station no longer exists however obvious remnants of the line towards Strathaven survive. An odd abandoned branch runs towards Plotlock and this seems to have been an abandoned project as the colliery it was to serve was never constructed.
