Elke M story, St Francis Bay.7 Jan to 9 May 2024
The Elke M, a 29 meter fishing trawler from Port Elizabeth, ran aground on the rocks at Shark Point, St Francis Bay in the night of 6/7 January 2024 in calm conditions. All 24 crew were rescued from their life rafts by the NSRI Station 21 crew and a ski boat. Salvage/wreck removal took place from 9 January to 9 May 2024, when it was no longer safe or possible to remove any more parts from the wreck.
