Inside A Landscaper’s Ultimate Backyard "Opus"

When a professional landscaper calls a backyard build his personal "Landscape Opus," you know you're about to see something completely mind-blowing! Mike's entire yard is a standard 50ft x 80ft plot, with only about 35 feet of space between the back of his house and the fence line. But our master designer, Brian Helfrich, decided to throw out the standard blueprints. Instead of fighting the yard's heavy sloped topography, Brian used it to carve out an organic, multi-tiered stone crater. The highlight of this build? The Sunken Fireplace Vault. Brian convinced Mike to excavate his entire fire pit deep into the earth, dropping it below the water level of the pond. When you are sitting downstairs at night with the fire roaring, you are completely hidden from the rest of the world. All you can see and hear is the crystal-clear water framing your sightlines, featuring an integrated "swim-up" stone ledge where prize Yamabuki Ogon koi swim right up to your hands for feeding! To make this luxury garden even more insane, the entire ecosystem is 100% self-sustaining! We engineered a massive, hidden 3,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system directly into the roof downspouts of the house. Every time a rainstorm hits, the water passes through a first-flush filter and tops off the reservoir matrix automatically—meaning Mike never has to use a single drop of city tap water to run his features.
