Should we excuse or blame the Second Vatican Council for the Church's seemingly endless depression? More than half a century after its close, the Second Vatican Council continues to raise questions, hopes, and controversies. How can we understand the profound crisis the Church is experiencing: the collapse of religious practice, the crisis of the priesthood, doctrinal turmoil, the loss of authority…? Are all the causes equally significant? Does the Council bear some responsibility—or has it been misinterpreted, even distorted, by the media?
