Yeongwol Jangneung is the resting place of Danjong, the ill-fated king of Joseon. Having been dethroned from the legitimate throne and dying at a young age, his tomb was built smaller and simpler than other Joseon royal tombs. However, a memorial altar was established here to honor the loyal ministers who sacrificed their lives for him, embedding both loyalty and tragedy within the site.
