Development of spintronics devices utilizing ferromagnetic semiconductors
Ohno Laboratory, Research Institute of Electrical Communication This movie introduces research on ferromagnetic semiconductors been doing by Prof. Hideo Ohno at Laboratory for Nanoelectronics and Spintronics, Research Institute of Electrical Communication, Tohoku University. Ferromagnetic semiconductors possess the properties of semiconducting and magnetic materials simultaneously. They are offering a number of opportunities to investigate novel spin-related phenomena. The Ohno group is working on fundamental physics and device application of ferromagnetic semiconductors, such as (Ga,Mn)As and (In,Mn)As. The electric-field control of magnetism first demonstrated by using ferromagnetic semiconductors is expected to provide a new scheme of electrical magnetization switching with low-power consumption in magnetic tunnel junctions.
