Beachcombing - Many Ribbed Jellyfish
During this week's beachcombing adventure, I found a many-ribbed jellyfish washed ashore. This large, bioluminescent hydrozoan is easily recognized by the translucent canals radiating across its saucer-shaped bell. Despite its jellyfish-like appearance, it is harmless to people and feeds on tiny zooplankton. Finding one on the beach offers a rare opportunity to get a closer look at this beautiful drifter of the open ocean.
