Let's build a Shou Sugi ban picture frame

I'm doing a quick side project today, building a Shou Sugi Ban picture frame for a photograph taken by Anna Ryabtsov. Instagram @annaryphoto , annaryabtsov.com Its a black and white photo of a rugged mountain peak so i thought a burnt cedar wood picture frame would complement it nicely. And it would really stand out on the bright white ship lap wall where it will hang. I was going to use white oak wood for the frame but I decided to use cedar because I had enough at the shop and because the Japanese burnt wood process is traditionally done with cedar wood. It's a fascinating process that looks amazing for interior and decorative applications but its primary purpose is to use it as cladding for the exterior of a home or building. Burning the wood makes it water, rot and pest resistant without having to use chemicals. So join me as I build and then char the frame, mount the picture and finally reveal the finished piece.
