Decode ME Prof Chris Ponting.

On Friday 22nd August 2025 Professor Chris Ponting from DecodeME gave a very interesting presentation about the new research into genetics and ME/CFS. This video is a recording from our Zoom meeting at the Stockport ME Group charity and was recorded live. We hope you find this informative because this research has been a very exciting development indeed. Many individuals with this condition have participated by providing a sample. Did you get involved? "The initial DNA analysis is now complete, and we have made some exciting discoveries. Our results show that people with an ME/CFS diagnosis have significant genetic differences compared to the general population. These findings confirm that genes contribute to someone’s chances of developing ME/CFS. Eight genetic signals have been identified that are much more common in people with ME/CFS than the general population. The signals discovered are involved in the immune and the nervous systems, indicating immunological and neurological causes to this poorly understood disease."
