AZ sets record high temp amid extreme heat warning | FOX 10 Phoenix

Phoenix and Arizona set a new record high temperature on Friday, kicking off what looks to be a sweltering few days with high temperatures that could reach 115 degrees according to the National Weather Service. Extreme heat warnings remain in effect across the region through the weekend as residents search for ways to stay cool. The Salvation Army is seeing a large uptick in people and families visiting heat relief stations throughout the area. Major Joseph Cisneros explains that visitors receive water, meals, and hygiene kits, noting that the organization gives out between 175,000 to 200,000 bottles of water every year. Medical experts emphasize that severe temperatures pose a serious risk to everyone. Dr. Paul Pugsley with Valleywise Health notes that 50% of severe heat stroke victims seen at the hospital are not unhoused individuals. Additionally, Dr. Kevin Foster with the Arizona Burn Center warns that contact burns from exposed surfaces like car upholstery or door handles can occur in just a fraction of a second.
