The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
Also known as the former Weston State Hospital, the construction of the facility began in 1858, the first patients were admitted in 1864, and construction finally concluded in 1881. The facility would go on to operate continuously from 1864 through 1994, remaining open for a total of 130 years. This is its story.
