Laat je de Skoda Elroq staan voor deze Toyota?

Toyota was so focused on hybrids that it neglected electric cars. That's changing with the Toyota CH-R+. Its name is confusing, but its crystal-clear driving experience is anything but. Toyota is awash in hybrid success and has now secured second place in the Dutch sales rankings. This is largely thanks to its compact range in the form of the Aygo X, the Yaris, and the Yaris Cross. Many of these models feature a hybrid powertrain, which the former will soon receive. On the electric front, the brand has been hesitant to see how the market develops. It launched its EV campaign in 2022 with the BZ4X, and this unsuccessful D-segment car was thoroughly updated earlier this year. To balance the offerings, the Urban Cruiser, co-developed with Suzuki, is also available for the B-segment. However, the Toyota CH-R+ is the EV that raises the highest expectations. Technically, it's a BZ4X with a short wheelbase and has nothing to do with the well-known CH-R. This hybrid sits on a different floorpan and is sixteen centimeters shorter. At 4.52 meters, the CH-R+ is seventeen centimeters shorter than the BZ4X. It's starting to dawn on you: it falls between the BZ4X and the Urban Cruiser. It's a C-segment EV based on Toyota's E-TNGA floorpan. It's up against the likes of the Renault Scenic, the Peugeot e-3008, and the Skoda Elroq. Deliveries begin in March 2026, and the "prototype" stickers on the car pictured emphasize its status. However, that doesn't mean it's not ready to make a presentable impression. It will be available with 54 kWh and 72 kWh net NMC batteries, giving it a range of 456 kilometers and 609 kilometers, respectively, according to the WLTP test cycle. The small battery is only available with front-wheel drive and 167 hp, but the large battery pack produces 224 hp as a front-wheel drive model and 343 hp with 4WD. These figures are familiar from the BZ4X. Every CH-R+ is equipped with a heat pump, battery preconditioning, and heated front seats and steering wheel. It can charge at 11 kW at an AC outlet and even at 22 kW depending on the trim level, while at a fast charger it draws 150 kW to charge from 10 to 80 percent in roughly half an hour – average for this class. This does not apply to the standard 10-year warranty; the battery pack even has a range of up to 1 million kilometers. Exact pricing is still unknown, but expect to pay €2,000 less than the BZ4X. Specifically, that's at least €38,000 for the small battery and €44,000 for the larger battery, which starts at a higher trim level. It can be cheaper in the C-segment, but also more expensive. On board, the CH-R+ barely differs from the BZ4X. The seating position is unusual; just like in a Peugeot, you have to tilt the steering wheel (too?) low to read the instrument panel over the rim. No reason to leave it at that position, but it's not ideal. The seats also have too short cushions for taller people, and rearward visibility is obstructed by the thick C-pillar. Furthermore, the dashboard and center console feel solid, with a Lexus vibe thanks to the neat materials. The multimedia system works better than the panel in, say, a 3008, but can't compete with the screens of the Volkswagen Group or Korean SUVs. The tablet responds too slowly for that, and you have to dig too deeply into menus. Climbing into the rear seat, access to the rear seat is a bit tight, and the space is reasonable. At 1.80 meters tall, a driver of the same height has five centimeters of legroom behind him and a few centimeters to the roof lining. It's manageable, but the bench seat is low, and feet don't fit under the front seats. The same applies to the trunk, which isn't large for its class at 416 liters, but in practice, you won't run out of space. The front-wheel drive versions can tow up to 750 kg, the 4WD version 1,500 kg. Welcome to the Autovisie YouTube channel.
