COMO JUCA CHAVES MORREU?
How did Juca Chaves die? Juca Chaves was a Brazilian singer, composer, musician, and humorist. He became known as the "minstrel of Brazil" due to his combination of biting humor with romantic lyricism in his songs. Jurandyr Czaczkes Chaves was born on October 22, 1938, in Rio de Janeiro. He was the son of Josef Czaczkes, an Austrian Jew who Portuguese-ized his name to Chaves, and Clarita Wainstein, the daughter of a Lithuanian Jew. His father, Josef, was a man of erudite education and had a deep appreciation for classical music, which significantly influenced his father's, often irritating, upbringing. As a way to straighten his son out, Josef arranged a job for him at a bank, a job where the young man would have to dress formally and maintain a serious appearance. This imposition revolted Juca, who did not adapt to the situation, ultimately leading to his leaving home. He went to live in his grandmother's house and needed to find ways to support himself, so he started giving guitar lessons. Decided to pursue a career as an artist, Juca Chaves began performing small, minimalist shows, playing guitar and singing in a soft style. At a time when Brazilian music was ripe for this type of music, it didn't take long for the singer to record his first single, which included the songs "Nós os Gatos" and "Chapéu de Palha com Peninha Preta". In 1960, Juca Chaves released his first album, "As Duas Faces de Juca Chaves", which included hits such as "Presidente Bossa Nova" and "Por Quem Sonha Ana Maria?" Even on his debut album, Juca Chaves made his genius clear, and especially his way of producing his songs. His song "Presidente Bossa Nova," included on this album, was a milestone in Juca Chaves' career and played a crucial role in his rise as one of Brazil's most innovative and irreverent artists. The song is a humorous satire of then-President Juscelino Kubitschek, known for his relaxed governing style and the accelerated development of the country, especially with the construction of Brasília. The song stood out for its social and political criticism, something that was relatively rare in popular music at the time. Over time, the singer did not lose his Brazilian roots, and even with the beginning of the military regime, he did not abandon this style, even knowing that there could be consequences. In 1968, when the regime "Proibidas de Juca Chaves" (Juca Chaves' Forbidden Songs), which contained captive material, was openly sold in record stores, Juca continued to face censorship and repression from the military government. Due to his criticisms and the regime's pressure, Juca Chaves was exiled in Portugal. With the military regime coming to an end, the singer returned to Brazil, deciding to release "O Menestrel do Brasil - Enfim Quase Livre" (The Minstrel of Brazil - Finally Almost Free) in 1985, which reflected his experience in exile and his continued social and political criticism. In the years and admirers, who came to share stories and moments of relaxation with the artist. Juca Chaves remained involved in musical and cultural projects, always faithful to his satirical and irreverent style, and in 2006, the singer decided to try to enter politics. He ran for the Senate for the Social Democratic Christian Party in the state of Bahia. His campaign was marked by the same irreverent style that characterized his musical career, using humor to attract voters and criticize the political system. Although there was no need for changes in the Brazilian political landscape, One of his last moments was "Jato," a critique of the political scandals that were occurring in Brazil at the time. After the release of the song, little changed in his life, however, his age already prevented him from doing so. Little information was given to the public; his family preferred to keep information about his last days private. The singer was hospitalized for 15 days before passing away. Juca Chaves died on March 25, 2023, due to complications from respiratory problems. He was 84 years old. His wake took place at the Bosque da Paz Cemetery in the capital of Bahia. Juca was laid to rest wearing the jersey of his beloved team, São Paulo. After the ceremony, his body was cremated. And that's how Juca Chaves died!
