More than 250,000 Itaú Bank personal banking customers will begin their transition to Banco de Bogotá in the coming weeks, following approval of the transfer of retail banking operations between the two entities by the Colombian Financial Superintendency. This change represents one of the most significant transactions in the Colombian financial system in recent years and marks a new chapter for users of savings accounts, credit cards, mortgages, and other products aimed at individuals. In an interview with Néstor Morales on Mañanas Blu, the president of Banco de Bogotá, Juan Carlos Echeverry, explained how the process will unfold and what customers will need to do to access their products once the technological migration is complete. Itaú Bank Retains Its Corporate Banking Echeverry clarified that the operation does not mean the disappearance of Itaú Bank in Colombia, but rather a reorganization of its business. "They are maintaining Itaú Bank, a bank for which we have immense affection and respect. They will maintain the corporate banking, but individual clients will come to Banco de Bogotá," the executive stated. Thus, Itaú will continue serving companies and institutional clients, while Banco de Bogotá will assume the retail banking operations, which serve more than 250,000 users. This is how the transition will work for clients The president of Banco de Bogotá explained that the process will be primarily digital and that users will need to activate the bank's technological channels once the migration is complete. "The first thing they need to do is activate the digital channels and check their products in the Banco de Bogotá mobile banking app," he noted. As he explained, from the moment of the transition, customers will stop using the Itaú app for individuals and will begin operating exclusively through the Banco de Bogotá platform. "The moment the transition takes place, they will already be Banco de Bogotá customers. They must use our technological platforms. The same information they had there will be here: their deposits, loans, cards, and other products," he assured. Although the exact date has not yet been revealed due to the closing of the transaction, Echeverry confirmed that the change will occur in the coming weeks and will be announced in due course by both entities. Immediate switch between platforms One of the questions raised during the interview was whether there would be a period in which the two banks' apps would coexist. The answer was no. "The Aval app is activated immediately. It's like when you get off one plane and onto another. From that moment on, you operate with the new plane," Echeverry explained, describing the technological transition.
