Follow the analysis or just enjoy the music. The recording used is my personal favorite performance of this work: Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Leonard Bernstein - conductor This was by far the most difficult analysis I've ever attempted. In addition to the music being by a 20th century French composer, it is in no traditional form nor based on any common practice harmony. Even musicologists are not all in agreement as to how to classify the work. Having said that, I learned a lot about La Mer through this analysis and have a much greater appreciation for Debussy's genius.
