Operation Trent November 2021 Function: A combined Al-Qaeda training camp and Taliban opium processing and storage facility.Geography: Positioned 190 miles (300 km) southwest of Kandahar at the base of the Koh-i-Malik mountain. An intricate network of fortified mud-brick houses, agricultural compounds, natural caves, reinforced trenches, and makeshift bunkers.   The Assault (Operation Trent)Because the compound was highly fortified, the mission required a rare daytime assault to maximize the precision of close air support.Infiltration: SAS Air Troop specialists initiated the assault via a high-altitude jump to secure a temporary landing strip.   The Main Force:  8 Full-mobility troop vehicles (specially modified Land Rovers) carrying operators from A and G Squadrons, 22 SAS, were flown in via US Air Force C-130 transports.The Engagement: Backed by US F-14 Tomcats and F/A-18 Hornets, British operators assaulted the trenches and bunkers on foot.   Outcome: The entire opium processing facility and military base were completely dismantled and blown up, resulting in dozens of enemy casualties, while four SAS operators were wounded.
