Franck Lepage et Gael Tanguy: créer une nouvelle forme d'éducation populaire (version longue)

Several years ago, Franck, Gaël, and other activists had the idea of doing popular education differently. Already working as facilitators, they were aware of the contradictions inherent in popular education, between "the vocation of empowering the public (...), of training citizens capable of acting on society" and "the reality of the job, particularly with regard to funding bodies and public contracts, which is more about domestication and maintaining social peace." To overcome these contradictions, they decided together to create their own working tool, a worker cooperative (SCOP) called Le Pavé, to practice popular education as they envisioned it. They adopted and invented a series of innovative tools to "raise awareness and empower people": "gesticulated lectures," to reach people less convinced by "the excuse of spectacle"; training in "gesticulated lectures"; "Discovery" workshops: for example, a workshop to detox from doublespeak, a workshop for public speakers to encourage public debate in the streets. The goal is "to empower people to develop strategies, to inspire them to build collective actions to influence their lives. This famous aim of social transformation!" The result: a resounding success: "We were turning down requests, expectations, and proposals every day, including from municipalities and local authorities who told us: we absolutely want to work with you!" According to Franck, they brought "a form of hope into the public sphere." Find out more at onpassealacte.fr, the website that inspires action.
