Here's my take on Joseph Kosma and Johnny Mercer's 'Autumn Leaves', recorded live at Mr. Vain   / mrvainbrisbane   and featuring James Eller on tenor sax   / jamese_official   'Autumn Leaves' was originally written by Kosma as a French song entitled 'Les Feuilles mortes' ('The Dead Leaves') with lyrics by Jacques Prévert. Mercer wrote English lyrics to the tune in 1950, and as he was also a founder and partner in Capitol Records, he chose Jo Stafford to make the first recording. A 1955 recording by pianist Roger Williams became the first piano instrumental to reach number one, staying there for four weeks, and remaining to this day the best-selling piano record of all time. It has also been sung by Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Edith Piaf, Ray Charles, Mel Tormé, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Arthur Prysock, Joe Williams, Vera Lynn, Robert Goulet, Lou Rawls, Barbra Streisand, Helen Merrill, Matt Monro, Chet Baker, Billy Eckstine, Natalie Cole, and many others.
