Jack of All Trades? Check Out This Versatile Mid 1960's Conn Connstellation 28A Long Cornet! #acb

[link in description] This Conn 28A is one of the most personal instruments in my personal collection. I'm hemming and hawing trying to figure out if I really want to sell it. This is one of the coolest vintage Conn instruments I have ever owned! It's very rare because it's silver plated. To the best of my knowledge they didn't make the 28A in silver plate, just nickel silver with brass accents. So this horn has probably been refinished. The Amado water keys are also a later addition. Check out how versatile this is with different mouthpieces! I use the following mouthpieces on this demo: 3C (at the beginning clip as well) 3C-B cup (cornet deep B style cup) 3C-MDF with cornet short backbore (flugel cup: super rich!) TA-Z (great commercial mouthpiece) This horn has a small bore size of .438, but it feels really open to play. The wide wrap helps to open up the feel of the horn. Even with a 3C mouthpiece the sound is thick, rich, and warm but still has a spark to it. It's that classic "Blue Note" sound reminiscent of Blue Mitchell, Lee Morgan, or early Freddie. Guys like Thad Jones played one of these in the Count Basie Band... it's an awesome cornet! Here's what Conn said in their own product manual: "The unique 28A, designed to look like a trumpet, is accepted by professionals as the best long model cornet on the market. Every detail of construction reflects an elegance of craftsmanship which has made this model the leader in its field. This cornet has a tonal "edge" which adds a beauty of brilliance for solo or ensemble playing. The 28A will serve a dual purpose, for many professionals use it as a trumpet or a cornet. By using a shallower and narrower cornet mouthpiece, this cornet could be made to sound like a trumpet. On the other hand, by using a deeper cup and a wider rim mouthpiece, the 28A would have a true cornet sound.
