It is directly related to the circulation capacity of aqueous humor, a liquid produced and eliminated in the anterior chamber (area between the cornea and the iris) and posterior chamber (area between the iris and the lens). High eye pressure, or ocular hypertension, is a condition in which the pressure inside the eye is higher than 21 mmHg, which is the normal value of intraocular pressure. This increase in pressure occurs when there is an imbalance between the production of ocular fluid and its elimination, which leads to a buildup of fluid inside the eye, increasing ocular pressure. High pressure in the eyes usually does not cause symptoms, as it does not cause damage to the optic nerve, and is often detected during eye exams. However, ocular hypertension can increase the risk of glaucoma, which is a more serious form of high pressure in the eyes and, in some cases, can lead to symptoms such as difficulty seeing, intense eye pain, and even nausea or vomiting. Glaucoma is much more than just elevated intraocular pressure - IOP. Normal pressure is considered to be between 10 and 20 mmHg, but there are cases of normal pressure glaucoma, as well as patients with high pressure without glaucoma.
