In the 3rd century AD, a new dynasty began to rise in Pars: the House of Sasan, whose origins lay in the priestly lineage of the Temple of Anahita. They gradually expanded their influence and eventually took control of Pars. This is the story of how the priests of the Anahita temple came to power. Ardashir, the son of Babak, succeeded in securing his family’s rule in Pars and then moved to seize control of the Parthian Empire. He finally confronted Artabanus, the last Arsacid king, in the decisive Battle of Hormozdgan.
