The Orrery at Jodrell Bank
Science Projects designed and built this Orrery for Jordrell Bank Discovery Centre, home to the giant Lovell telescope, and installed it in March 2013. At 5m diameter it is thought to be the largest purely mechanical orrery in the world. Constructed with 52 brass gears the mechanism gently drives the orbits of the planets at the correct ratio to each other below a star map showing the constellations of the night sky.
