This biblical passage has three main characters: 1. Naaman, a Syrian man of great prestige in his nation. 2. The Israelite girl, a servant of Naaman's wife. 3. The prophet Elisha. Naaman the Syrian was a leper and was sent to the king of Israel to be healed. The king could do nothing for this man because he did not have God's anointing to heal. Furthermore, Syria and Israel were not exactly friendly. The king of Israel was very upset. Then, the prophet Elisha intervened, summoned him, and calmly, through his servant Gehazi, instructed him to dip himself in the Jordan River seven times, but the Syrian refused. This man's problem was not only his leprosy but also his bad temper and pride. Eventually, his servants persuaded him, and Naaman dipped himself in the Jordan seven times and was healed. Then he returned to Elisha and made a profession of faith to the Lord. This passage shows that God shows no partiality to people, nations, or races. He can save anyone, according to His holy will.
