Standing on the Shoulders: Our Province History
The history of today's Jesuits USA Central and Southern Province reflects the history of the United States and the Caribbean. Founded by pioneers from Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and beyond, our history is one of faith, imagination and boldness. Our province is built on the willingness of the Jesuits who came before us to take risks, work with people on the margins and say yes to hard things. May we always honor that legacy. The USA Central and Southern (UCS) Province serves in 12 states, Puerto Rico and Belize and has approximately 400 men who serve as pastors, administrators, educators, spiritual and retreat directors and in other roles. Jesuits have served in this area of the United States and the Caribbean as early as the 16th century and continually since the restoration of the Society in 1815.
