Sometimes the road fills your head with crazy ideas. Back in Cumaná, after helping my friend Katia repair every broken appliance in her house (and celebrating afterward with a few Solera Verde beers), some backpackers convinced me to travel to Güiria and try crossing into Trinidad and Tobago. In Episode 7, I reveal the harsh reality of that journey. After arriving in Güiria, I discovered there was no legal transportation, only illegal boats charging up to $300, with no safety guarantees for me or my motorcycle, Yanay. I decided to turn back, but the bad luck wasn't over. A powerful storm caused me to crash my motorcycle, breaking the mirror and the speedometer cable. Then, when everything seemed lost, the road surprised me once again. By taking a wrong turn, I arrived in the magical village of Santa María, where I met the unforgettable Chalo—a former doctor, bodybuilder, and local shaman. Together we explored hidden waterfalls and ventured deep inside the spectacular Guácharos Cave.
