The Agony in the Garden (Matthew 26:36-46) — We contemplate the prayer of our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He sweat drops of blood in His anguish. He prayed: 'Father, if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me; yet not my will, but Thine be done.' 2. The Scourging at the Pillar (Matthew 27:26) — We contemplate how our Lord Jesus was bound to a pillar and cruelly scourged. By His stripes we are healed. He bore our sufferings and endured our sorrows, offering Himself for the sins of all humanity. 3. The Crowning with Thorns (Matthew 27:27-31) — We contemplate how the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns and placed it upon the head of our Lord, mocking Him as King. Yet He is truly the King of kings, whose kingdom is not of this world but is everlasting. 4. The Carrying of the Cross (John 19:17) — We contemplate our Lord carrying His heavy Cross through the streets of Jerusalem to Calvary. He calls each of us to take up our cross daily and follow Him, transforming our sufferings into acts of love. 5. The Crucifixion (John 19:18-30) — We contemplate the crucifixion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. From the Cross He said: 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'
