Using old files as a Striker for Flint & Steel firemaking...they work!
Maybe you are thinking about buying a custom forged striker. Or maybe you'd like to but don't have the money. Maybe you are just starting out or teaching skills to a Boy or girl Scout. An old file can be re-purposed as a steel striker. In this video, I will show two files I picked up at garage sales and modded into functional strikers, and both were purchased for a total of .50 cents! Now, having said that, I have nothing against a custom forged striker, but BEWARE...they may look great, but not all work well. Do your research on the maker and look for reviews to ensure your money fetches a top-notch product.
