In this video, we'll learn how to formulate and understand the equation for the intertemporal budget constraint. We'll then plot the budget line and examine how it's affected by changes in interest rates and income. We'll also see how we can distinguish between savers (creditors) and debtors (borrowers) using the endowment point. This is the first of two videos on intertemporal utility maximization. In the second video, we'll use the combination of the budget constraint and the utility function to graphically and mathematically determine optimal consumption and utility-maximizing saving.
