Tamarack - Castle Mountain - Hall

The Lift: This epic chairlift came used from Sunshine Village where it was originally installed in 1970 as the Great Divide chairlift, opening up new high-alpine terrain, and making Lookout Mountain more accessable. In 1996, Sunshine decided to replace the Hall double with a Poma detachable. This is around the time when Castle was experiencing a re-birth under new owners, and seeing an opportunity, they purchased and installed this chair. The Tamarack chair services extremely high-alpine terrain. On this lift, there are several alpine bowls you can ski down on the skiers left. This chair also accesses Castle's "Chutes" (not open the day I went sadly). Overall, this is by far the best chair at Castle, and it's pretty neat that they still regularly run an old Hall double like this! The Lift: This is an old Hall double chairlift that has bail-style seats. The lifting frames were aftermarket, most likely added after this chair was installed at Castle. It is bottom drive and top tension.
