“Today you are returning to Russia” In May 2025, the first major exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia took place in the format of 1000 for 1000. Ukraine returned a thousand of its citizens — military and civilians. Russia received the same number of its military who were in captivity. This is the first film in a trilogy about the historical exchange. The film features unique footage shot by the Babylon 13 team with Russian military personnel who are about to return to Russia and their thoughts on what they will do after returning home. Before returning, they were presented with the state project “I Want to Live” — an initiative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War with the support of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate. The project was created for servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation who want to voluntarily surrender to captivity. The project guarantees (in case of capture) the detention of military personnel in accordance with the norms of the Geneva Conventions. Before repatriation, the servicemen were introduced to I Want to Live — a government initiative by Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, supported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR).
