Todos somos sobrevivientes: Pedro Algorta at TEDxResistencia
Pedro is a survivor of the Andes tragedy who shared with us how to make the most of even the most adverse situations. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires and an MBA from Stanford University, California. He has also pursued studies in International Politics at Torcuato Di Tella University and in Adaptive Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Massachusetts. He has been a member of the Executive Committee of Quilmes International and General Manager of Cervecería Quilmes. He has also held management positions in organizations such as Techint, Peñaflor, Campofrío Alimentación, and Cepas Argentinas. He was one of the survivors of the Uruguayan plane that crashed in the Andes in 1972. For 35 years, the accident was a private matter for him, but since then, he has decided to share his experience with others, bearing witness to his life experiences and lessons learned in such a tremendous and extreme situation. In recent years, he has been actively engaged as a speaker and seminar leader, integrating his 35-year professional career managing top-tier companies with his extreme experience in the Andes and the conceptual approach of "Adaptive Leadership" learned at Harvard with Ronald Hefitz. The extraordinary speaker explains that, after many years working in companies, "I now dedicate myself to exploring what happened to me in the Andes, what group dynamics allowed us to survive the 70 days lost on the mountain, and what we can learn from that experience." He also identifies as passionate about humanity, nature, life, and the outdoors. Following the TEDxResistencia philosophy and our leitmotif "pursuing change," Pedro stated that he had to pursue many transformations in his life to arrive at where he is today. "Life is a continuous adaptation; it is constant change," he affirmed. He also concluded that: "Life is full of uncertainties. Listening to ourselves and trying to find ourselves, in those deep conversations to know what we truly want, will allow us to live a good present, calmly and one step at a time, when the future arrives." In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
