He was from Iran and served Akbar. He was the father of the famous Nur Jahan and the grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal of Taj Mahal fame. After Nur Jahan's marriage to Jahangir in 1611, he was made Wazir (Prime Minister). He held the mansab of 7000/7000 and the title: "Itmad-ud-Daulah" (Lord Treasurer). He died in Agra in 1622, a few months after his wife's death. Nur Jahan built this mausoleum for her parents between 1622 and 1628. Her own tomb and Jahangir's tomb are in Lahore. The Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah is a masterpiece of the domed class of Mughal tombs. It is the first building made of white marble and marks the transitional phase from red stone to white marble, from Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra to the Taj Mahal. It reflects the personality of the polished Iranian who is buried here, and even more so, the ceremonial and decorative character of its creator, Nur Jahan, who ruled the Mughal Empire from behind the scenes for 16 years (1611-27). The most striking aspect of this tomb is its polychrome ornamentation. Beautiful floral, stylized, arabesque, and geometric designs are painted on the entire exterior using inlay and mosaic techniques in a variety of pleasing colors and tones. Wine vases, dishes and cups, cypresses, honeysuckle, guldasta (flower bouquets), and other Iranian motifs typical of Jahangir's art are used extensively. Some works are inspired by the plant studies of Jahangir's famous "fauna and flora" painter, Ustad Mansur Naqqash. Some stylized designs are also executed in exquisite carvings,
