Built in secret by REME and wrongly forgotten as one of Hobart's Funnies, around 52 BARVs hit Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches on June 6, 1944. They dragged drowned tanks out of the water, shoved stranded landing craft back to sea, and kept the beach lanes open under direct fire. The Americans had nothing like it.
