Inside (Quartet for one double bass player), 1969 By Kenneth Gaburo (1926-93) For Bert Turetzky (1933- ) A film featuring two performances of INSIDE, a dialog between Kenneth Gaburo and Bert Turetzky, and an introduction by Gaburo. Inside is a gestural/acoustical composition. The ‘quartet’ is characterized by: 1. Voiced phonemes derived from the word, Inside. 2. Extra vocal sounds, eg, kissing, rolled [r] 3. Bass effects which employ the use of the strings 4. Bass effects which do not employ the use of the strings. The expression, “With quiet, near-imperceptible turbulence,” should be regarded as omni-present reference point for the articulation of all compositional elements.
