Shanghai 2006 on VCD: A Grainy Time Capsule
I discovered a VCD from my 2006 to Shanghai and the Jiangnan region, and the quality is gloriously terrible. Join me on this grainy, shaky time capsule journey through Xitang Water Town (yes, where Tom Cruise filmed Mission Impossible III), Hangzhou's West Lake before it became UNESCO-listed, Suzhou's classical gardens, and Shanghai's iconic Bund. From cormorant fishing to Longjing tea tastings, this nostalgic throwback captures China nearly 20 years ago through the charmingly awful lens of VCD technology. It's not 4K, but i's real.
