Pure Vintage 63 Precision vs stock MiM pickup
The stock pickup wasn’t bad at all. To my ears, the PV63 adds a bit more oomph in the lowest register and cleans up the mids. The tone cap used here is .047 µF (Fender recommends .100 µF for the PV63, but I don’t really think that’s necessary — especially with flats), and the tone was fully open throughout the recordings. I prefer Thomastiks to Rotosounds on this bass because of their lower tension (the neck is rather slim for a P) and the stronger mids, which balance nicely with the PV63 pickup.
