Mt. LAWRENCE GRASSI scramble (4K), Canmore, Ab
This hike is very steep. I hadn't done it in about 7 or 8 years and forgot how bad the grind up is. That being said, the summit views make up for the grade going up. Few surprises on this hike. It does narrow and the rock is angled a bit prior to the summit with rocks on slab. This is likely the crux for most people. There is a downclimb should you choose to go over to the alternate summit but it is not required. Roughly a 9.5km hike/scramble and around 1050m elevation gain. At this point and time you cannot access the trail by way of Goat Creek parking lot due to construction on the reservoir road. You have to access it from the other side where the road crosses the canal (see video). Park here and walk up the service road 2.3km. Disclaimer - Always scramble within your own abilities. Thoroughly assess the situation and research the route. Just because I may have done this route at this time doesn't mean you can or should. GPS and/or a topo map are a valuable tool to help. Leave a route description behind with exact location should you not arrive home at a predetermined time. Have a way to contact rescue as well if you are in an area of no cell service(SPOT, Garmin, etc.). Also, if hiking in winter make sure you have the necessary skill and knowledge regarding unstable conditions and perform a proper risk assessment prior to engaging in this activity.
