1968 Hot Wheels Silhouettes (300-301) National Redline Day

#FourHorsemenDiecast #DiecastInternationalBuilders #HotWheelsRedlines #1968Silhouette On the bench today are a pair of original 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Silhouettes. I got these in an eBay auction, because one of my life long best friends said it was his favourite as a child, so I wanted to restore one for him. Designed by Harry Bradley, the Silhouette was one of the cars released in the 1968 Hot Wheels series, also known as the "The Sweet Sixteen". It’s considered the least valuable Hot Wheels car of the 1968 year because there were so many produced. The cars were packaged with a collector's button. The casting’s been retooled twice. Hong Kong versions have blue tinted glass, a two-piece interior featuring a steering wheel stuck into the dashboard, longer, but thinner side pipes, and four square placement holes in the chassis. The Hot Wheels casting is based on the real life candy apple red, all steel-bodied Sillouhette that was hand formed and built by Bill Cushenbery, on a modified '56 Buick frame. The car was completed by the summer of 1962, and sported a fuel injected Buick engine and wire wheels. These highlights were replaced in 1963 by a dual quad 429 Ford and slotted mag wheels.
