PJ Library - after a bit of digging turns out I’m not the only Jewish parent uncomfortable with how PJ Library talks about Israel. In April 2024, PJ Library sent out a leaflet titled “For Parents: ideas for talking about and celebrating Israel this year”. After receiving that I cancelled our membership because of the atrocities Israel is committing in Gaza, I absolutely did not want to teach my kid to celebrate Israel. And from having a read around PJ Library’s website and the foundation behind it (Harold Grinspoon Foundation), it’s clear to me it’s (not so) undercover Zionism. One of the values and commitments of the HGF is “maintaining the special connection between Israel and the diaspora.” So I won’t be re-subscribing but if anyone knows of any books for kids about being Jewish that aren’t Zionist let me know!
