La dura historia familiar y las batallas políticas de Andrés Julián Rendón | Vanessa de la Torre
In this episode of How Men Love, I traveled to Medellín to interview the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona, in one of the department's most iconic locations: the old train station. And although I came to talk to him about hunger, because Antioquia managed to lift 565,000 people out of food insecurity in just one year, I ended up getting to know him for real. He told me about his fiercely independent mother and his father who worked at Postobón, about the Spanish Sacred Heart priests who made him write geometry formulas ten thousand times, about the exchange year in Canada that took him away from aviation and plunged him headlong into politics. He told me how he met Susana, his wife, in the master's program where he was the professor, and how she signed the complaint against him. He spoke of María Camila, his younger sister, who lived for ten years with hydrocephalus and left a mark that is still evident in his voice. We also talked about Petro, the Toyo River, the railroad that Colombia lost along with Panama, and why he believes the upcoming elections could be the country's last free ones. A long, honest, and surprisingly personal conversation with one of Colombia's most influential politicians today.
