What tips should you remember when solo 4x4ing/4WD'ing by yourself, all alone...Matroosberg 4x4 Route and Reserve It's been a little while, but we're back! Solo mission up the Matroosberg 4x4 Trail! Full Episode! It's been around 15 years since I was last in a 4 wheel driven vehicle, pointed up the intimidating presence of the Matroosberg Mountain Range. This is first time I've been here in summer, what a treat! Freshly fallen snow is the usual thought when Matroosberg is in question, so I was keen for a new type of adventure, and what's more is that I'm ALL ALONE! If you ever have the thought of going out on a 4x4 adventure on your own, definitely watch this for some tips and tricks to make it a safer, more enjoyable endeavour. With exposure on cliff faces that commands you to instantly sweat, steep rocky hill-climbs, loose surfaces, and stomach churning descents, Matroosberg is no joke, and not for the faint of heart! Whether breathless from the jaw dropping scenery or adrenaline, you definitely don't want to miss this one, and you definitely should go check it out for yourself! Solo 4x4 Tips: - reliable jack - recovery boards or the knowledge and skills to DIY a form of them from your surroundings - terrain dependant - basic tools/toolbox - specific tools for your particular vehicle appropriate to its common failure points/weaknesses sufficient water for yourself and potential issues with your vehicle relating to coolant etc - enough food for what you need + extra for potential extended time out due to unforeseen circumstances - spare set of clothes, both long & short sleeved - depending on location - thorough vehicle pre-trip inspection walk obstacles first - make sure your car is secure from rolling as best as possible when exiting - switch off ignition, leave in Gear/Park, handbrake tightly on, parked in the best possible position based on the surroundings never leave you car running and exit the vehicle, or only use the handbrake/park/gear on their own, always use in conjunction together i.e in park + handbrake on - always tell someone where you going, when you are going, and roughly when they should expect you back - potentially keep in contact with them throughout your journey Swimming, Fishing, 4x4ing, adrenaline, this holiday had it all!
