In late May 2026, I took a 2-day, 1-night trip to Oze from the Kanto region in search of the beautiful Mizubasho (Asian skunk cabbage)! I’d love to share a few little tips for those who really want to wait for a sunny window, or who just can't make plans until the very last minute. (Please note that this is based on my personal research and doesn’t guarantee a booking...) ⚫︎ Try calling huts that only accept reservations by phone It's worth reaching out to huts that only take bookings over the phone. (For this trip, I called Ryugu Hut just a week before and surprisingly managed to secure a room!) ⚫︎ Check blooming updates frequently if you want to see the Mizubasho Mizubasho is the ultimate symbol of Oze. While late May to early June is generally considered the best time to visit—with the first week of June being the absolute peak—the actual blooming schedule shifts a bit depending on how fast the snow melts. (This year, many of the flowers had already finished blooming by late May...) ⚫︎ Night Bus vs. Early Morning Bus The Friday night expressway buses were already completely sold out a week in advance. If you can manage to book a mountain hut, I highly recommend looking into the early morning buses, as they tend to have more open seats. Keep in mind, though, that the direct expressway bus only runs three times a day.
