In May 1966, Alan Hart travelled to South Arabia (now part of Yemen) as the Aden Emergency raged on. Aden had become the front of the Arab Cold War, with Egyptian-backed, Arab-nationalist paramilitaries waging guerrilla war against the British presence since 1963. It would be another two years before British forces withdrew from the area and the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) was formed.
