More than 12,000 delegates from nearly 190 countries, including seven heads of state and a hundred environment ministers, have gathered in the Colombian city of Cali to participate in COP16, the global biodiversity summit, which will serve as a platform for Latin America and the Caribbean to flex their muscles. Amid the global environmental crisis, the region—home to six of the world's ten most biodiverse countries: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, and Venezuela—and holding approximately 60% of the planet's biodiversity and a third of its freshwater, aims to demonstrate its potential to offer solutions.
