Guess the album - 1990s edition #2! 50 album covers with text removed - how many can you name?
We're back with another album video - this time we're delving into the 1990s, which was a decade with lots going on musically. From Seattle came grunge, with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. Grunge became the voice of disenchanted youth, pushing aside the glam metal of the 1980s (some would argue that Guns 'n Roses "November Rain" was the final nail in that coffin). Simultaneously, alternative rock and indie acts such as Radiohead, R.E.M., and The Smashing Pumpkins gained widespread recognition. The decade also saw the mainstream breakthrough of punk revival bands like Green Day and The Offspring, signaling a renewed interest in raw, energetic rock. Hip-hop and rap experienced tremendous growth and transformation during the '90s, evolving from a niche genre into a dominant cultural force. Artists like Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, and Jay-Z brought lyrical depth and storytelling to the forefront, while producers such as Dr. Dre pioneered the G-funk sound. The East Coast–West Coast rivalry shaped much of the decade’s rap narrative, but the genre also diversified with the rise of Southern rap and alternative hip-hop acts like OutKast and A Tribe Called Quest. Pop music in the 1990s was characterized by the emergence of teen pop idols and polished, radio-friendly hits. The late '90s witnessed the rise of boy bands like *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, as well as solo pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Meanwhile, R&B flourished with artists like Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, and TLC blending soulful vocals with contemporary beats. Electronic music and rave culture also gained momentum, especially in Europe, laying the groundwork for the EDM boom that would follow in the 2000s. Bottom line - there was A LOT going on. Heck, we even had a swing revival in the mid 90s for reasons no one can explain! So the video is pretty self-explanatory - you'll see an album cover that has had the text removed (if there was text in the first place) and you'll have seven seconds to name the band and the artist. But we're not pigeonholed into one genre here, so don't be shocked if you see some that are completely outside your wheelhouse. Finally, a little note for the Poindexters out there who want to "Well, ACKSHUALLY..." me in the comments. Merriam Webster defines an "album" as "a collection of recordings issued as a single item on CD, record, or another medium." #GuessTheAlbum #MusicQuiz #AlbumCoverChallenge #VinylVibes #RockNRollTrivia #NoTextChallenge #ClassicAlbums #vinyl #vinylrecords #records #1990s #1990snostalgia #1990smusic #grunge #hiphopmusic #1990 #namethealbum #1990snostalgia #90smusicgame
