Born in Rome, Nazarius was baptized by Saint Linus, a disciple of the Apostle Peter. While traveling to preach the gospel, a Christian mother entrusted her son Celsus to Nazarius. From that day on, the two preached the gospel together and became spiritual guides to many. During the cruel persecution of Emperor Nero, they were both thrown into the sea and killed, but they miraculously escaped by walking on the water. Finally, in 68 AD, they were beheaded and martyred in Milan. In the fourth century, through the prayers of Saint Ambrose, their incorrupt relics were miraculously discovered and placed for the people to venerate.
