UNC release video of North Korean soldier's defection to South Korea / YTN | 긴박했던 상황...'판문점 귀순' CCTV·TOD 영상 공개 "Breaking News " "Footage of North Korean" "defector crossing the MDL and heading South" "In this initial scene, we see a North Korean" vehicle heading towards 72-hour bridge. (Footage of the JSA defector on Nov. 13) You can see him moving at a good rate of speed. You also see him approach the guard tower next to the 72-hour bridge gate. Some North Korean soldiers are seen running out of the nearby buildings. "Note the lower left corner of the videos," we have included the time stamps. You will see the vehicle move past the building quickly towards the bridge. He proceeds across the bridge on this road towards the Kim Il-sung Monument. This is the starting pointm of the North Korean JSA tours. You can see how the vehicle tries to cross the MDL. "In the video, he makes a right-hand turn" here by the monument. This is an assumed intent to drive across the MDL and into the Republic of Korea. "Underneath these trees, the vehicle" makes its way to a point where it ran into an obstruction and can go no further. "In the next clip, you will see surprised" KPA and JSA guard force soldiers respond by running to this location of the stuck vehicle. Some KPA personnel ran from them adjacent guard tower and some ran from the steps at Panmungak in response. The next segment is the primary portion that shows most of the events that day. It shows the KPA defector exiting his vehicle quickly and start running south across the MDL. "At that time, 4 KPA soldiers will come and" engage him here as he's running across the MDL. "If we can go back, just a little bit." "Rewind, please." A bit further. Could you play that one more time? You will see him run away. "When we focus back on the top screen," "If you look at the top screen," you'll see 1 KPA soldier run across the MDL for a few seconds before returning back to the North's side of the Panmunjom. This footage here shows how the KPA soldier crosses the MDL and returns back to the North. "In the next clip," you'll see KPA soldiers gathering near the Kim Il-sung Monument as part of their reaction force. "At this point in time, our ROK JSA security" battalion personnel are launching their quick reactionary force as well. There are personnel monitoring this CCTV. "As you can see, the CCTV is moving." We are currently watching this monitored scene with the CCTV clearly moving along. Both the US and ROK JSA battalion commanders were getting actively engaged in this situation. You can see the time at the bottom. "In the next picture, we see" the wounded KPA defector lying against a retaining wall on the south side of the JSA. "In this final clip, we see the heat signature" from the wounded KPA defector as he lays against the retaining wall among some leaves here. (Breaking News Disclosing Footage of N. Korean Defector) The JSA security battalion forces are assessing the situation at this point. The movement you see on the right side are 3 soldiers going to the immediate location. We had more security battalion forces in the area but 3 went to the immediate area of the defectors. You see the 2 crawling up to the defector. These are 2 non-commissioned officers. This person here is the ROK JSA deputy battalion commander. These 2 soldiers bring the defector back to where the ROK JSA deputy battalion commander is. While the US battalion commander is directing the overall effort in accordance with our rules. Once the 2 soldiers bring the wounded defector back to the ROK JSA deputy "battalion commander, they evacuate" the wounded defector to a vehicle. It is important to note that that point of area in the JSA is exposed to a KPA check-point. After the men bring the soldier back "to the vehicle and evacuate him further," he's eventually moved to a US medevac aircraft where he's moved to a medical facility for care.
