Learn how to form regular vs. irregular plurals in English grammar in this basic lesson for beginners. I'll teach you how to form regular plural nouns in English by adding -s, -es, -ies, or -ves, depending on the singular noun. I'll also discuss irregular plural nouns and plurals that do not change. Singular nouns refer to just one person, place, thing, or idea. (Example: dog, hat, animal, book) Plural Nouns refer to two or more persons, places, things, or ideas. (Example: dogs, hats, animals, books) There are many types of irregular plurals, but they do not follow the standard rules in English (just add -s or -es). One of the most common irregular plurals are words that end in "f" or "fe." The "f" changes to "v" and -es is added. (Example: knife/knives, leaf/leaves, wolf/wolves) Plural nouns ending in -o are usually made by adding -es (tomato/tomatoes, potato/potatoes) Some plural nouns don't follow any particular rule, so they require memorization.
