Cyclamen is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful houseplants. This plant is relatively easy to grow, has a beautiful decorative appearance, and requires little care. Like any plant, cyclamen need to be repotted from time to time. Repotting is done after the plant emerges from dormancy, which is usually in late July or early August. This procedure should be done before buds appear. The end of the dormancy period can be determined by the formation of new leaves. In my case, last year my cyclamen bloomed from early spring to late fall, then went dormant for a couple of months. It didn't reactivate until late February, so I'm repotting it now. How should I choose a pot for repotting? Cyclamen doesn't do well in larger pots. The container should be selected based on the size of the plant's rhizome: a young tuber between one and one and a half years old will do well in a pot with a diameter of 7-8 centimeters. Older tubers (2-3 years old) require a container with a diameter of 15-16 centimeters. The distance from the tuber to the edge of the pot should be 2-3 centimeters. If you're repotting in an old pot, be sure to disinfect it immediately beforehand. A new container should be simply washed and dried. The soil plays a significant role, especially the condition of the cyclamen itself, its growth, and flowering. Ideally, the soil mixture for cyclamen should be loose and nutritious. Loose soil is essential for successful flower growth. People often buy ready-made soil mixtures at flower shops. However, it's better to make your own. You'll need: 1 part peat, 1 part compost, 1 part clean sand, and 3 parts leaf mold. To promote root formation and plant establishment, add a little vermiculite to the soil. Just before planting, water the soil with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. This procedure is necessary to kill fungal pathogens. When replanting, don't completely cover the tuber with soil; it should be visible by 1/3. After replanting, water the soil, preferably around the edge of the pot to avoid water getting into the center of the tuber. Fertilize no sooner than a month after replanting. Cyclamen thrives in cool conditions and bright, filtered light. Avoid placing cyclamen in direct sunlight. It thrives best on a west or east exposure. Suitable temperatures range from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius. Replanting cyclamen isn't a difficult procedure. If you follow all the rules and instructions, it won't be much trouble or work.
