Aging in Place | Keeping Marilyn at Home

Aging in place is not simply about remaining in the same house. It takes daily care, constant maintenance, and a home that can continue adapting as needs change. In this episode, on an ordinary morning we explore what it really takes to keep Marilyn at home. The day begins with coffee and her morning medications, then moves outside for visits from an arborist assessing a dead crabapple tree and a workman cleaning the gutters. The tree stands beside the part of the yard where we may eventually create additional space for a caregiver, raising larger questions about how this house can continue supporting Marilyn in the years ahead. Later, Marilyn comes downstairs on her chair lift with a load of laundry, settles at the breakfast table, and talks through the ordinary rhythms of the day. These moments may seem small, but they are the heart of aging in place: maintaining the house, adapting it when necessary, protecting dignity, and preserving the routines and choices that make it home. The episode ends, as real life often does, with the doorbell ringing and family arriving. If you have been following Marilyn’s story, thank you for being part of this journey.
